Adapted from Cranks’ cookbook, where it is called Kumara Pie
2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced 1 tbsp butter 4 oz onions, sliced into rings 1 pint sour cream 5 oz milk 1 tsp garam masala large pinch nutmeg 1 glove garlic, minced 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees 2. Rub gratin dish with a little of the butter and cut the rest into small cubes 3. Mix all ingredients together and spread evenly into dish. 4. Put in oven and cook at least 1 hour until potatoes are soft (and brown and crisp on top) Serve with salad of bitter greens, like spinach or watercress.
