The white flour can be replaced with whole wheat (or some of each), and the butter can be replaced with canola oil, for a healthier dish. The fruit can also be varied: try cherries or peaches.

4 cups apples, peeled and sliced t T. lemon juice 1/3 cup flour 1 cup oats 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 t. salt 1 t. cinnamon 1/3 cup butter (or oil) 1. Place apples in pie plate or 9x 9 inch baking dish, and sprinkle with lemon juice, and stir. 2. In a medium bowl, mix the remaining ingredients, cutting the butter in until the texture is even and the butter is creamed with the sugar and flour. 3. Sprinkle the oat mixture over the apples. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, or until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is browned a bit.
